Dinner - Benin Style

The cook at school, Colette, had cooked last year a couple times a week for one of the teachers. She wanted to know if we might be interested. "Heck, yeah!" was my response. She came by last Friday and cooked us our first Beninese meal - fish sauce with rice, pineapple, and papaya.

Colette is preparing the monk fish.
She also brought some hot peppers to add, but I asked that they go on the side. These peppers are really hot!

She only cut up four. Adding chopped onion would help with the spiciness, she said.

Fish Sauce

Mmm, sweet and juicy!

Before she left, she washed everything she used and swept and washed the floor. All we had to do was eat!

She added green beans to the sauce.

Voila!

This final picture is from my purchase at the vegie/fruit stand close to school.

Eggs, pineapple, onions, oranges, plantain, tomatoes, carrots, green beans, lettuce, coriander - all for $6!

Bon appetit!
